A to Z: Science Edition |SBC Week 6

A is for Atom, the basic component of a chemical element.

B is for Botany, the study of plants.

C is for Climatologist, the scientists that study the atmosphere or climate.

D is for DNA, the deoxyribonucleic acid which is in your body cells.

E is for Entomology, the study of insects.

F is for Fossil, the remains of a prehistoric organism preserved in a rock.

G is for Gravity, a force that attracts an object toward the center of the Earth.  

H is for Herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians.

I is for Ichthyology, the study of fishes.

J is for Jupiter, the fifth planet away from the sun and the largest planet in our Solar System.

K is for Kuiper Belt, a region filled with asteroids, ice, and many comets in our solar system beyond Neptune’s orbit.

L is for Lepidoptery, the study of moths and butterflies.

M is for Milky Way, a galaxy with a Solar System in it.

N is for Nebula, a cloud of gas and dust located in outer space.

O is for Ornithology, the study of birds.

P is for Paleontology, the study of fossil animals and plants.

Q is for Quantum, a quantity of energy proportional in magnitude to the frequency of the radiation it represents.  

R is Radiation, a type of energy that contains electromagnetic waves/moving subatomic particles.

S is for Star, a luminous point visible in the sky at night.

T is for Telemetry, the recording and transmitting readings of an instrument.

U is for Universe, all existing matter and space considered as a whole.

V is for Venus, the second planet from the sun and known as the hottest planet in the Solar System. 

W is for Weather, the state of the climate which could either be sunny, windy, snowy, rainy, etc. 

X is for X-ray, an image of the internal proportion of an organism.

Y is Ytterbium, a chemical element of atomic number 70.

Z is for Zoology, the study of animals.

my favorite words that I learned were the ones that end in ology. I learned that ornithology, lepidoptery, ichthyology, and herpetology are all under the Zoology category since they all involve animals. Words that end in ology have very cool job professions like Vexillologists are people that study flags. You never expect for that to be a real profession, right? Ludology is the study of video games and bromatology is the study of food. Researching these words are so interesting because you never expect what the actual “study of” is.
