Wonder Woman: Made with Code| SBC Week 9

Hello everyone!

Today, I’m going to tell you about the activity I did for Computer Science Week. I went on the Hour of Code website and pressed the “Grade 9+” button. The “Grade 6-8” only showed grades 2 and up. The first one I found was called Map Tour App. I looked at this and it looked too complicated. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I tried watching the video on the left side, but I couldn’t understand that. After trying Map Tour App, I found another activity called Wonder Woman: Made with Code. The Wonder Woman activity was actually very challenging, not like the Minecraft or Frozen coding (I highly recommend these activities to beginner coders). At first, I didn’t understand how I was supposed to get Diana to the end of the highlighted blocks. But after trying different combinations, I finally got the first one. On Level 2, I was going to use almost 30 blocks, but you have a limit on the number of blocks you can use. I learned that less is always more because you could get the same result when using a less amount of blocks than using 20 plus blocks.

I hope you guys enjoyed my post and try these activities. Thank you for reading, have a good day! Bye bye! 💜

Celebrating The Holidays| SBC Week 8

Happy Holidays!

This week, we are supposed to be talking about family celebrations that we do during the holidays. There are many holidays during the supposedly “coldest” time of the year, but the main holidays that I celebrate are Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 3rd Thursday of November. Christmas Eve is celebrated on December 24th and Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.

During Thanksgiving, it’s a small family gathering. My mom wakes up early to “make” the food. Some of the food is from Costco and Foodland like the mashed potatoes and the turkey. My brother and I set the table and then go kill time by watching TV. My dad will be out getting my Grandma or おばちゃん (Obachan, that’s what I call her). My uncle is always the first guest. He cruises on the couch watching the football game. When everyone comes, it’s basically first dibs on seating. Since my table isn’t large enough to accommodate everyone, an adult, my brother, and I have to eat on a “kiddy” table. After lunch, we eat pumpkin crunch cake and pie.

On Christmas Eve, the daytime is usually normal. Around five o’clock, we go to my mom’s close friends house for dinner. I hang out with everybody and the other families that are there. We eat pizza, salad, fried chicken, rice, noodles, and some sort of fish that I don’t eat. We have Christmas activities like decorating chocolate cupcakes and running around the house while my brother and my mom’s friend’s daughter scream their heads off. It’s really funny, but then they get in trouble for being too loud. At 11:00, we’ll go home and it’ll be Christmas day the next morning.

Christmas morning is always fun. My dad won’t let us go downstairs without filming us. We open presents while we are being filmed. The best present I’ve ever gotten was a Taylor Swift concert ticket. After we’ve opened all our presents, we check out stockings then clean up the mess by taking our presents upstairs to our room so we can deal with later. Lunch is like Thanksgiving except there’s no turkey, it’s steak instead. This is probably my favorite holiday.

How do you celebrate your holidays? I hope you enjoyed reading about how I celebrate my holidays. Thank you for reading. Bye bye!💜

BLΛƆKPIИK In Your Area| SBC Week 7

First Picture By Wikipedia Second Picture By Generasia

Hello everyone!

Today I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite K-Pop girl groups, BLACKPINK or 블랙빙크. I’ve heard about them when I first got into K-Pop and my friend, Mari, was telling me about them. A couple of months later, I was in summer school, taking a Korean class, and the teacher played DDU DU DDU DU. I was like “Wow. They’re really good.” I watched music videos and listen to their other songs. After DDU DU DDU DU, I really liked BOOMBAYAH then a bunch of their other songs.

BLACKPINK debuted with WHISTLE (휘파람) on August 18, 2016. The group consisted of four members, Kim Jisoo (first picture), Kim Jennie (second picture), Park Chaeyoung (Rose, third picture), and Lalisa Manoban (Lisa, last picture). The group is from YG Entertainment and has no leader. They are one of the most popular girl groups in Korea with DDU DU DDU DU as their most viewed music video with 496 million views. Their fandom name is BLINK. It’s a combination of BLACK and PINK if you didn’t know. They also started their World Tour as of this moment.

BLACKPINK has incredible singing and rapping voices, the ability to dances amazingly, and they all have enjoyable personalities. If they didn’t have at least one of these factors, they wouldn’t be as popular as they are now. My favorite member or bias is Kim Jisoo. Although she cannot speak English like the other members, she’s super funny and has a great voice. She doesn’t get a lot of lines in songs, but she basically takes care of Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. Sometimes, I think if one person weren’t in the group, who would it be? But BLACKPINK wouldn’t be BLACKPINK without the members.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you enjoyed reading about one of my favorite K-Pop groups. Please check out the links! <3 Bye bye! 💜

X is for X-ray, an image of the internal proportion of an organism.

Y is Ytterbium, a chemical element of atomic number 70.

Z is for Zoology, the study of animals.

my favorite words that I learned were the ones that end in ology. I learned that ornithology, lepidoptery, ichthyology, and herpetology are all under the Zoology category since they all involve animals. Words that end in ology have very cool job professions like Vexillologists are people that study flags. You never expect for that to be a real profession, right? Ludology is the study of video games and bromatology is the study of food. Researching these words are so interesting because you never expect what the actual “study of” is.

Get To Know My Readers With Sherlock Holmes| SBC Week 5

Hello everyone.

Today, I’m going to be reviewing a book that has recently been a favorite of mine Sherlock Holmes in A Study In Scarlet Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Illustrated by Gris Grimly.

The genre is detective fiction, mystery, and crime. The reading level is ninth grade. The recommended audience is 12 or 13-year-olds. If you like crime and puzzle solving, I highly recommend that you read this book. I would rate this book 5/5 because Sherlock is really smart pays attention to details no matter how big or small. He can tell what you basic and personal information just by looking at you. It’s really incredible.

“The year is 1881. The city, London. A man lies dead in an empty house, not a mark upon him, and no clues— save for the word “RACHE” scrawled in blood on the wall above. elsewhere, two men— a former army doctor called John Watson and a brilliant eccentric called Sherlock Holmes.— meet for the first time. These two events set in motion an adventure into the darkest corners of men’s hearts, as the cold, calculating investigative methods of Mr. Holmes are put to the test in a case that spans decades and continents, rife with danger and intrigue.” (Retrieved from Doyle, C. Arthur. Sherlock Holmes in A Study in Scarlet. Gris Grimly, 2015)

Tell me what your favorite book is in the comments. I hope you’ll read this book and thank you for reading my review. Bye bye! 💜

How To Legally Use Pictures| SBC Week 3

Hello everyone.

Today, I will be teaching you how to legally use pictures off the Internet. Here are some websites that you can legally use media:

I mainly use Creative Commons because it’s simple and you can also use videos from YouTube as well and music from SoundCloud. The songs on SoundCloud are most likely going to be a cover, but it’s possible to find the actual song (I think, but don’t take my word for it). Compfight is good because some of the pictures provide the citation.

When you use any media,

GIVE CREDIT!

This is very important because you wouldn’t want someone to take something you own and claim it as their own.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you learned something new and bye!

My 7th Grade School Year| SBC Week 10

Picture By: Flickr via Creative Commons

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another post. Since the school year is coming to an end, I’ll be talking about:

1. What you enjoyed the most this school year
2. What you would have changed if you could redo this school year
3. What you’re looking forward to next school year

The thing I enjoyed the most this school year would be the beginning of the year trip to Camp Mokuleia. I enjoyed it because it was the first camp I went to for school and we did a lot of teamwork games. It helped me to bond with some students of the other grades. The one I remember vividly was that there was a box and everyone had to be touching the box (there were a lot of people which made it hard to get everyone to touch the box). If you complete the challenge, the box gets smaller and smaller. It took time to figure out for everyone to fit, but we got it.

If I could redo something, I would redo would be our Winter Program performance. I just feel like it was something we always do, the flips and gymnastics stuff. Our dance teacher was amazing and a great dancer, but I think we should have done something a little more original, maybe a K-Pop dance. I doubt that everyone would agree with it though, but it’s a good idea.

I’m looking forward to the Japan trip next year. I think it would be cool to go somewhere by yourself with your class. My mom really wants to come with me, but I really want to go by myself. I have seen a lot of pictures from previous trips and the 8th graders stay with their host families from our sister school. I’m super excited to go next year!

My Bucket List| SBC Week 9

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another SBC post. Today, I’ll be talking about my bucket list. I just found out why they call it a “Bucket List”, turns out it’s because of an idiom “To kick the bucket” or to die. I’m going to do the Top 3 things that I really want to do.

Picture By: TechnoLlama via Bing Free Images

If you are familiar with my blog, you know I’m a really huge fan of  Taylor Swift, so one of my crazy things is to meet Taylor Swift. Meeting her would be the best thing in the entire world since I’ve looked up at her since I was little. If I ever do meet her, I think I would die (literally collapse and believe that life isn’t real). I’d get her to sign a bunch of my stuff. I have really slim chances of meeting her, but I’m going to keep my head up high.

My next crazy thing would go a K-Pop concert, preferably a VIXX concert with my friend, Raya. I recently have gotten into K-Pop and so far VIXX is my favorite. I’d also be a fun experience, going to Korea with my friends. Raya and I would probably scream our heads off. I would really like to experience going to a concert in a different country.

My final crazy thing would be to get over one fear. People ask me what my greatest fear is, but I don’t have one. I have lots of mini fears. I guess I would want to get over at least one fear since I’m such a coward. The fear I would try to get over would be touching or swimming with fish. Fish just scare the heck out of me, they are just very weird, so I choose not to eat, touch, or be really around fish.
