Why A Stapler Makes The Best Valentine’s Day Gift| Weekly Post #45

Picture By: Wikimedia Commons via Creative Commons

Hello everyone.

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and our Language Arts/English teacher gave us several questions that Valentine’s Day related. Of course, I picked the weirdest one: “Convince someone that a stapler is the best Valentine’s Day gift.

A stapler comes in all your favorite shades of black and any color in the rainbow. And when you put it on a desk, it makes you look very a e s t h e t i c. If someone were to say, “Wow, such a beautiful stapler. Who got for you?” Then, they would say (this is just an idea)”oH tHIS oLD THING? yEaH, my SIGNIFICANT OTHER for Valentine’s Day.”

It’s also very useful because it can stick papers together. WOW SO COOL. It’s probably the best things ever invented. When I need to staple either science or math homework, I don’t have a stapler so a stapler as a gift would be very helpful.

Another reason is that if there is ever a zombie apocalypse and not saying that there will be, but IF THERE IS and zombie stumbles and somehow bites your arm/hand/leg/foot off, then you could use your handy dandy stapler—that your SIGNIFICANT OTHER gave you for heart day—to stapler back your limb. Use some goop juice and you’re all good! (i got this idea from a video game, so don’t try this at home.)

I hoped everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. See you next week. Bye.

My Favorite K-Pop Songs of 2018| Weekly Post #44

Hello everyone.

If you didn’t read my post about my favorite video games, you should probably go read it. This post is going to be about my favorite K-Pop songs of 2018.(it’s basically just me saying how amazing these songs are)

Picture By: Generasia via Creative Commons

BLACKPINK’s DDU DU DDU DU

If you didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of BLACKPINK. I really like this song out of all of them because it sounds pretty and cool at the same time. The music video’s visuals are really well done like when Jennie was on that bedazzled tank (queen).

Picture By: Wikimedia Commons via Creative Commons

BTS’s FAKE LOVE

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. (enough said)The thing is that BTS can make anything look cool like when J-Hope is lying in an abyss filled with candy bars or when Jimin turns the faucet off. But the song is amazing and the dancing was really well done.

(G)I-DLE’s LATATA

(G)I-DLE is a group I’ve been recently getting into. LATATA is just a different sounding than much of the other K-Pop songs I’ve been listening to. The visuals are more exotic with the hennas and different patterns that they use throughout the video. I also like the different songs in the I Am- EP (Maze and $$$).

ASTRO’s Always You

(the photo above is ASTRO, but not Always You era. It’s Breathless era) When I first listened to this song, I thought it was the best things I’ve ever listened to. It was smooth and mellow, but still fast pace at the same time. And the aesthetics are very clean and exquisite and Jinjin’s green hair is underrated.

I hope you give all these songs a listen. Hope you have a great week and thanks for reading! 🙂

My Favorite TV Series of 2018| Weekly Post #43

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to another Weekly Post. This is part two of my favorite things of 2018. Today is My Favorite TV Shows.

Picture By: Flickr via Creative Common

BBC’s Sherlock is such an amazing show. When I first watched it, I only watched a couple of minutes and thought “Eh. It’s ok.” After a while, I came back to it and started watching more of A Study In Pink and it was really interesting. I enjoyed seeing how Sherlock could figure out how the pink lady ended up in the building and when. It’s just interesting watching Sherlock and Watson solve mysteries together.

Friends is funny and it lives up to expectations and beyond. It’s good to watch anytime during the day and the storyline is complicated, but it makes sense. I feel happy every time I watch it. The show follows six characters and their life. All the characters are quirky in their own special way. Monica is a cleaning freak, Phoebe and her songs (smelly cat ^. _ .^), Rachel and her spontaneous decisions, Ross the nerd of the group, Joey the life of the party, and Chandler and his sarcastic jokes.

I’ve mentioned this show before in my Love Yourself post, but if you didn’t know Queer Eye is a Netflix show that helps people fix their life up. Each guy has their own field that they specialize in. Bobby does interior design, Karamo teaches culture and is basically a therapist, Antoni does the cooking, Jonathan specializes in grooming, and Tan helps in fashion. I think it’s amazing how they connect to everyone that they help.

Gilmore Girls is a show about a mother, Lorelai, and her daughter, Rory, and their adventures together. They go through the obstacles of love, school, and Lorelai’s rich parents. Rory acts like the grownup while Lorelai acts like a child humor-wise. They drink a lot of coffee… probably ten cups of coffee every day. Since they live in a small town, you get to see how close the girls are to everybody.

Picture By: Serial Crush via Creative Common

Downton Abbey is about the Earl and Countess of Grantham, their children, and staff going through different obstacles like love life, financial business, and the war. I think that this show is underrated in millennials. It teaches you the history about the European monarchy. Even if you aren’t interested in that, there is a lot of drama. I’m not really into both of those things, but I absolutely love this show. There is going to be a movie coming out on September 20, 2019.

I hope you enjoyed reading my favorite TV shows of 2018. Hope you have a good week! 🙂

My Favorite Video Games of 2018| Weekly Post #42

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Weekly Post. It’s been a really long time since I’ve posted one. February 15, 2018, to be exact :/

Mostly everyone has been doing reviews of their favorite things from 2018 and why not do that too, since my mind cannot come up with anything at the moment.

Picture By: Flickr via Creative Commons

Monster Hunter World is an adventure game where you hunt monsters in different locations such as the forest, desert, and underwater that’s not underwater (what???). As you hunt more monsters, you can forge or upgrade armor/weapons. Armor sets are similar to a specific monster and some weapons get their own element as you upgrade (electric, fire, etc).

You can play this game with friends, strangers, or by yourself. Only 4 people can play in a quest/expedition  though. The game introduces many tutorials on how to use weapons, join others’ quests, hunting monsters, and crafting different materials. I highly recommend that you buy this game and for those of you that have that game, aren’t you excited for Monster Hunter World: IceBorne?

Picture By: WCCFTECH via Bing Images

Overwatch is a pretty old game, but it’s actually really fun and interesting. Quick Play (a type of game setting) is six players versus six players to capture/defend objectives, such as point A or B or a payload.

There is a variety of heroes to choose from. I like how they made the heroes diverse with different abilities and backstories. I also like how the maps take place in various places such as Japan, Egypt, Russia, etc. Overwatch is also consistently being updated which is always exciting.

Picture By: Flickr via Creative Commons

I’m not the best this game, but I really enjoy playing this game with friends. Super Smash Bros: Ultimate is a game for the Nintendo Switch where you battle as your favorite characters from Pikachu to Donkey Kong. There’s an adventure mode where you play as Kirby to save everyone. The only thing I don’t like is that you have to unlock almost all the characters, either from adventure mode or just playing for a really long time.

Picture By: Flickr via Creative Commons

Batman: Return to Arkham is a super fun game to play by yourself. This game is rated for teens, so there are some inappropriate things to be aware of. You may think that this game is boring, but it’s actually super fun and requires you to think on your feet/stressful situations.

You have to sneak around areas to take out the enemies’ henchmen. Batman also has a bunch of different gadgets that are super fun to use while fighting. You don’t just to play as Batman, but you also get to play as Catwoman. I can’t express how much I love playing this, using strategies to take out enemies and roaming Arkham.

Well, those are my favorite video games of 2018. I hope you enjoyed reading this and try some of these games. Also, Happy New Year! See you next Weekly Post 💜

Wonder Woman: Made with Code| SBC Week 9

Hello everyone!

Today, I’m going to tell you about the activity I did for Computer Science Week. I went on the Hour of Code website and pressed the “Grade 9+” button. The “Grade 6-8” only showed grades 2 and up. The first one I found was called Map Tour App. I looked at this and it looked too complicated. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I tried watching the video on the left side, but I couldn’t understand that. After trying Map Tour App, I found another activity called Wonder Woman: Made with Code. The Wonder Woman activity was actually very challenging, not like the Minecraft or Frozen coding (I highly recommend these activities to beginner coders). At first, I didn’t understand how I was supposed to get Diana to the end of the highlighted blocks. But after trying different combinations, I finally got the first one. On Level 2, I was going to use almost 30 blocks, but you have a limit on the number of blocks you can use. I learned that less is always more because you could get the same result when using a less amount of blocks than using 20 plus blocks.

I hope you guys enjoyed my post and try these activities. Thank you for reading, have a good day! Bye bye! 💜

Celebrating The Holidays| SBC Week 8

Happy Holidays!

This week, we are supposed to be talking about family celebrations that we do during the holidays. There are many holidays during the supposedly “coldest” time of the year, but the main holidays that I celebrate are Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 3rd Thursday of November. Christmas Eve is celebrated on December 24th and Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.

During Thanksgiving, it’s a small family gathering. My mom wakes up early to “make” the food. Some of the food is from Costco and Foodland like the mashed potatoes and the turkey. My brother and I set the table and then go kill time by watching TV. My dad will be out getting my Grandma or おばちゃん (Obachan, that’s what I call her). My uncle is always the first guest. He cruises on the couch watching the football game. When everyone comes, it’s basically first dibs on seating. Since my table isn’t large enough to accommodate everyone, an adult, my brother, and I have to eat on a “kiddy” table. After lunch, we eat pumpkin crunch cake and pie.

On Christmas Eve, the daytime is usually normal. Around five o’clock, we go to my mom’s close friends house for dinner. I hang out with everybody and the other families that are there. We eat pizza, salad, fried chicken, rice, noodles, and some sort of fish that I don’t eat. We have Christmas activities like decorating chocolate cupcakes and running around the house while my brother and my mom’s friend’s daughter scream their heads off. It’s really funny, but then they get in trouble for being too loud. At 11:00, we’ll go home and it’ll be Christmas day the next morning.

Christmas morning is always fun. My dad won’t let us go downstairs without filming us. We open presents while we are being filmed. The best present I’ve ever gotten was a Taylor Swift concert ticket. After we’ve opened all our presents, we check out stockings then clean up the mess by taking our presents upstairs to our room so we can deal with later. Lunch is like Thanksgiving except there’s no turkey, it’s steak instead. This is probably my favorite holiday.

How do you celebrate your holidays? I hope you enjoyed reading about how I celebrate my holidays. Thank you for reading. Bye bye!💜

BLΛƆKPIИK In Your Area| SBC Week 7

First Picture By Wikipedia Second Picture By Generasia

Hello everyone!

Today I’m going to be talking about one of my favorite K-Pop girl groups, BLACKPINK or 블랙빙크. I’ve heard about them when I first got into K-Pop and my friend, Mari, was telling me about them. A couple of months later, I was in summer school, taking a Korean class, and the teacher played DDU DU DDU DU. I was like “Wow. They’re really good.” I watched music videos and listen to their other songs. After DDU DU DDU DU, I really liked BOOMBAYAH then a bunch of their other songs.

BLACKPINK debuted with WHISTLE (휘파람) on August 18, 2016. The group consisted of four members, Kim Jisoo (first picture), Kim Jennie (second picture), Park Chaeyoung (Rose, third picture), and Lalisa Manoban (Lisa, last picture). The group is from YG Entertainment and has no leader. They are one of the most popular girl groups in Korea with DDU DU DDU DU as their most viewed music video with 496 million views. Their fandom name is BLINK. It’s a combination of BLACK and PINK if you didn’t know. They also started their World Tour as of this moment.

BLACKPINK has incredible singing and rapping voices, the ability to dances amazingly, and they all have enjoyable personalities. If they didn’t have at least one of these factors, they wouldn’t be as popular as they are now. My favorite member or bias is Kim Jisoo. Although she cannot speak English like the other members, she’s super funny and has a great voice. She doesn’t get a lot of lines in songs, but she basically takes care of Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. Sometimes, I think if one person weren’t in the group, who would it be? But BLACKPINK wouldn’t be BLACKPINK without the members.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you enjoyed reading about one of my favorite K-Pop groups. Please check out the links! <3 Bye bye! 💜

K is for Kuiper Belt, a region filled with asteroids, ice, and many comets in our solar system beyond Neptune’s orbit.

L is for Lepidoptery, the study of moths and butterflies.

X is for X-ray, an image of the internal proportion of an organism.

Y is Ytterbium, a chemical element of atomic number 70.

Z is for Zoology, the study of animals.

my favorite words that I learned were the ones that end in ology. I learned that ornithology, lepidoptery, ichthyology, and herpetology are all under the Zoology category since they all involve animals. Words that end in ology have very cool job professions like Vexillologists are people that study flags. You never expect for that to be a real profession, right? Ludology is the study of video games and bromatology is the study of food. Researching these words are so interesting because you never expect what the actual “study of” is.

Proud Projects (Trimester 1)

Hello everyone!

Today, I will be showing off 5 pieces of work that I’m very proud of. All of the projects are from Language Arts class.

DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS AND NOT ALL ANSWERS ARE CORRECT FOR SOME QUESTIONS

The Real Boo Radley

The Real Boo Radley is a question I had to answer how Boo Radley developed from monster to hero. I’m proud of this because I spent a lot of time and research.

Boo Radley is a character in To Kill A Mockingbird, who is misunderstood by many. People think that he is psychotic because he doesn’t want to come out of his house, but frankly, he’s scared. His dad, Mr. Radley, keeps him isolated from outdoors to prevent him from going to jail. This damaged Boo emotionally, along with the rumors and evil of the people. But he proves himself to be a genuinely good person by doing deeds of kindness to the Finch children, Scout and Jem.

Boo Radley was considered a monster but proved to be a hero in the end. Throughout the story, there are many rumors that made Scout and Jem’s perspective think that he’s some sort of freak that eats raw squirrels and cats and that he has yellow rotten teeth. Boo Radley was also thought to be mentally unstable because he stabbed his father in the leg. ” According to Miss Stephanie, Boo sitting in the living room cutting some items from The Maycomb Tribune to paste in his scrapbook. His father entered the room. As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent’s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities.” (pg. 11) But the true Boo is actually kind and innocent because he left gifts for the children in the hollowed tree outside his house; Such as chewing gum, a boy and girl carved out in soap (pg. 59), and the lucky penny. He also shows bravery and selflessness when he saves Jem’s and Scout’s lives from Bob Ewell’s threats. “Well, it’d be sort of shootin’ a mockingbird, wouldn’t it? (pg. 276) Scout stated that Boo Radley could have gone to jail for killing Ewell, but he did it to save Scout and Jem. Overall, Boo Radley is a savior despite what everyone else says.

Scout’s understanding of Boo started out to fear him because of the rumors and stories. “…Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained— if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten…” (pg. 13) But her perspective slowly changes when little gifts were left in the hollowed tree and indicate that he wants to be their friend. She feels uncertain about if it’s a good idea, but the little acts of kindness soon convince her that he isn’t going to harm them. When the children decided to trespass onto the Radley’s property, Jem’s pants got caught in the barbed wire; He struggles to release the barbed wire from it, but gives up and leaves the pants there. When he goes back to the house, Jem finds his pants sewed back together, crookedly. “When I went back for my breeches— they were all in a tangle when I was gettin’ out of ’em, I couldn’t get ’em loose. When I went back—…” “… they were folded across the fence… like they were expectin’ me.” (pg. 58)  Scout understands that Boo means no harm and he just wants to start a friendship with them.

Boo teaches Scout to not judge a person before you get to know them. At the beginning of the book, Scout’s mindset believed that Boo was a bad person and every crime that happened in Maycomb was caused by him. When Miss Maudie’s house was burning down, Boo sneakily covered Scout in a blanket. “I looked down and found myself clutching a brown woolen blanket I was wearing around my shoulders, squaw-fashion.” (pg. 71) Scout figures out that Boo did all the kind gestures and acts to them and her mindset changes believing that Boo Radley is not a monster.

To Kill A Mockingbird used Boo Radley as a way to teach readers that people may seem bad, they could be really kind. Scout learned throughout the book that Boo Radley is just a normal person who just wants some friends. The book still relates to the real world since it deals with all the bad things such as racism and prejudice. It also deals with good things such as human dignity and innocence. Don’t judge a person before you get to know them, who knows, maybe they could be a lifelong friend.

Privacy with Technology

This assignment is another question I had to answer: To what extent has modern technology like phone apps, search engines, and social media changed people’s expectations of privacy? We got this assignment after reading New York Times Upfront Magazine “Does Facebook Know Too Much?” I’m proud of it because I’ve learned about how Facebook and other apps can get ahold of others information

People’s expectations of privacy changed because people put all of their trust and information into different phone apps, search engines, and social media. They don’t really know that some search engines and social media apps are collecting and analyzing their data. “It worries me that someone is getting a hold of my information and I don’t know what they are doing with my it,” 11th-grader at Colchester High School in Vermont (pg. 14 of The New York Times Upfront Magazine “Does Facebook Know Too Much?”) Facebook knows your location, private messages to your friends, and every photo that users have liked. Everything you do online is being practically monitored and analyzed; companies can sometimes tell what they are feeling.

Social media and websites have positive effects to collect data from different users. They do it to target different users based on their likes to advertise their products. It doesn’t waste the companies, app’s, and users’ time in seeing a totally unrelated ad. “The data that people give is extremely helpful in order for to get more-relevant offers, deals, opportunities that you potentially want,” says Ben LeDonni, CEO of the digital marketing agency Creative Multimedia Solutions. (pg. 17 of The New York Times Upfront Magazine “Does Facebook Know Too Much?”)

Social media and websites have negative effects when collecting data. It worries users on what Facebook, Instagram, or any other websites are collecting and which data they are collecting. “It worries me that someone is getting a hold of my information and I don’t know what they are doing with it,” says the 11th-grader at Colchester High School in Vermont. (pg. 14 of The New York Times Upfront Magazine “Does Facebook Know Too Much?”) It’s making people question how much information Facebook and other companies have on users since Facebook was said that to analyze your behavior.

Although Facebook and other companies, such as Instagram, retrieve information from users,  it has its benefits and drawbacks. It cautions us, but it doesn’t stop us from using it and liking it. It connects it to family and friends, lets us messages to-be friends, and other things that involve social media and websites.

Resume Cover Letter

This is my cover letter for my resume. The resume is for this Challenger Mission activity that we do. I’m proud of it because it was very hard to write about myself, but I managed to do it.

Dear Ms. Kojima,

I’m applying for the Challenger Mission’s REMote and Life Support positions. Based on the job description for these two positions, I am confident that I’m well qualified to do either of the jobs well. I am presently an eighth-grade student at Hongwanji Mission School and my experiences both in and outside of the classroom make me an outstanding candidate.

I am most interested in being hired for the REMote position. Based on its job description, I have extensive experience in completing these types of tasks. In my years of schooling, I have worked on many assignments that have required me to identify problems and think quickly on my feet to solve them in the most efficient way. I also have experience in doing different types of research. Throughout my years of studying science, I have enjoyed working on different experiments. I can use my skills in examining, observing, and recording a variety of results that are needed in the REMote position. I am knowledgeable in using the Internet to help me find the information needed. I have always worked well with my classmates and teachers, and I think it’s important for people to work together as a team to achieve success.

I would also like to be considered for the Life Support position. This job involves doing various kinds of testing. As a middle school student, I’m very familiar with different types of tests in all subjects. This would be very helpful when working on the Spacecraft in order to conduct and record research and results. I also have experience in handling stressful situations and being able to quickly problem solve in order to find the right solution. The Life Support position would also require me to work well with others on different projects. This is something that I particularly enjoy and I would consider this to be one of my strengths.

Please refer to my enclosed resume that includes my experiences and skills. I look forward to meeting you soon so that I can answer any questions that you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Sarah

Upfront: Sentence Summaries

This is when I had to summarize small articles into one sentence of New York Times Upfront Magazine “Can North Korea Be Trusted?” (pg. 3-5) I’m proud of it because I’m not very good at summarizing, but I thought I did well.
